When I change the volume at certain points on a track using AUTOMATION volume, it then does not allow me to change the volume of the tracks a whole using the volume in the left slide bar. Is there any way to still use the overall track volume in the left side after altering with automation volume?

No, sorry, if you use the volume automation, you can no longer use the global track volume button. But you can select all points of the volume curve and drag the automation curve lower.
