how to recover unsaved pdf file

I was working on an application for hours. I was unable to save it and just minimized it. My laptop battery died and when I charged it and opened it it is gone. Is there any way to recover it? Thx in advance.

Off hand I'd say NO

What application were you using? What happened when you tried to save it?

E.g. Adobe Acrobat Pro has auto save feature that keeps a temporary file but you have to enable it.

MS Office has similar auto recovery feature.

It was adobe reader. My misunderstanding, as it was my husband who was working on it and apparently he saved it as a pdf file but when he opens it he cannot amend or edit it. It's like a read only file I guess. Is there any way to change it so he can edit it? Thanks for any help you may have.
