it's not in the left hand column so I can't export or share to it.
But when I click the Theater tab, there is content there.
When I try to share in any way, I see no progress bar.
MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
it was iMovie 10.0.3. But I unistalled that and re-installed from App store, 10.0.5 on Mavs.

Don't see Theater in the left column and don't see progress of Share.
I don't have Theater in the left Column; however, do you not show the option to Share under your File menu? And it should be showing in the top bar. I can't post a screenshot because that iMovie version is on my MBP which is not handy at the moment.
OK, think I have it. After import I need to create a movie. Drag the imported media to the timeline, then share to iTunes.
Can't Share a movie directly from the imported media.
