unable to play dvds but plays cds

i have macbook pro late 2011 15inch with Yosemite 10.10.3 which plays cds no problem but spits out DVDs

is this potentially as software problem?I have used an optical disc cleaner to clean the superdrive with no success

The SuperDrive has two lasers. One for CD and one for DVD. It sounds like the DVD one has ceased functioning. You can have your SuperDrive replaced or purchase an external one which would be cheaper.
