Having had HD wiped and no back up....what external back up should I get??

Hi all, as explained in my previous post, I have had my Hard Drive erased and I had no back up at all 😢

I thought it was stored on Time Machine.......but that was wiped. I also thought it was stored on icloud......but it wasnt. I have nothing at all.

I took it to my nearest Apple Store and explained the entire situation. The guys at Apple were amazing and they could not do enough for me. They performed many scans, one which was a very deep scan but sadly nothing at all could be restored. I am in pieces as many memories documents etc are all gone.

So the thing is, please please can you tell me what the best external storage would be? Do you suggest one of those Time Capsules or just an ordinary external hard drive. If so can you suggest what is the best one to get?

My Mac is a Macbook Pro Retina 256GB. Thank you all so much.

This is not MacBook Pro forum...

My Apple Macbook Pro started to sound loud with the fan. A friend then erased the HD and reinstalled yosemite.

After that he named the owner (my full name) instead of just my first name.....as it previously was.

SSDs are impossible to recover files. That was pointed out already.

Two different types of backup: TC is networked TimeMachine.

I rely on http://www.bombich.com "CCC" to keep a copy, archive, files. But also bootable working backups.

iCloud is not a desktop/laptop full backup method. Handy, amd share files across Mac, laptop, phone.

I have Amazon, a cloud service, a photo service. Even Facebook uploads all my photos from my tablet and phones.

Not sure why or how you got to loss everything (if you think an old thread is helpful link to it but we are just users after all)
