Q: No alerts in Notifications

I just re-installed Yosemite on my iMac.  I had been running Snow Leopard since 2009.  I did the free upgrade to Yosemite earlier this year, but it was running slow as molasses, and I had to restore to Snow Leopard.  Recently I added memory to my Mac (went from 4 gigs to 12) and Yosemite runs fine, but now I get no alerts at all in my Notifications Center.  All the Notifications are on and I have tried setting to Alert and to Banner, but I get nothing.  I did have one notification when I added photos, but after I deleted that, nothing new appears.  No phone calls, emails, messages, etc.  How do I get this to work?

This procedure will revert your settings in the Notifications preference pane to the defaults.

Back up all data before continuing.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    ~/Library/Application Support/NotificationCenter

Right-click or control-click the line and select

              Services Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it are one or more files with long names. Move the files to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate the settings.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
