Air play malfunction

With older softwares I could use the air play with the iPad or iPhone in stand by and the movie continue to play. Now I can't, why???

with older softwares I could had the Apple TV turned off and when I select the air play on the iPhone it goes on, now I have to turn it on in the remote control.

I Was expecting improcements with new softwares not this!!! it runa better with older softwares... Apple is walking backward!!!
