Q: How can I update my current ios 6 on my itouch 4th generation to ios 8?

I have a Itouch 4 generation that's software iOS is 6.1.6. I would like to update it to iOS 8 but it's telling me it's up to date and it's preventing me from downloading apps. Can someone assist me with how to update my software? Thanks.

You can't. The 4g iPod is not capable of running any software beyond 6.1.6
