Q: How do I get the new Photos software to accept both RAW and JPEG images?Software won't accept my RAW images.

I usually shoot pictures in both RAW and JPEG.  Last time I did this, the new Photos software would only display the JPEGs.  How do I get it to accept and display both RAW and JPEG?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

If your camera isn't listed on the page linked below, use the free "Adobe DNG Converter" to convert the RAW files to DNG format. You should then be able to import them.

From the Photos help topic Editing basics > Choose to use a RAW file as the original:

Some cameras allow you to shoot photos in both RAW and JPEG formats simultaneously. When you import photos from these cameras, Photos uses the JPEG file as the original—but you can tell it to use the RAW file as the original instead.

    • Double-click a photo in your Photos library to open it, click Edit in the toolbar, then choose Image > Use RAW as Original.

There is no global setting for this -- you will have to do it for every RAW+JPEG shot. Alternately, set your camera to shoot only in the RAW format.

In photos when you shot RAW plus JPEG the display is stacked - the JPEG has a "j" on it - to use the RAW double click on the photos to enlarge, click edit and then under the Image menu select use RAW as original

However the real question is why are you shooting both? Why not just shoot the one you really want?
