The disc is a DVD
Your machine is well able to take this upgrade and can go as far as Yosemite.
Where did you get the disk from? Is it the right disc for your machine? There is a retail disc available from the App store. If the disk you are trying to use is grey in colour it is machine specific and can only be used with the machine it was supplied with.
It was from the apple store and all other dvd's work just not the apple.
The disc is also white and has a tiger on it.
A tiger and not a snow leopard? Tiger OS is 10.4, may pre-date your computer, and is not an upgrade for you with 10.5.
Sorry its updating to 10.6.3 and im 10.5.8
Assuming this is not a case of mistaken identity, It may be a faulty disc. Please, when did you buy the disc, and how did you pay for it. If it was by an Apple account and credit card you could use the request on the receipt to 'Report a problem'. That should see them send a replacement but make sure you tell them it is for upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3.
When you get it, you will still have to update further tp 10.6.8 through software update but we will tell you about that when the matter of the state of the disc is sorted.
I bought the disc last week for 20$
So if all other dvd's work, this one is faulty. Change it as I suggested.
