ios pages magnifying glass repeatedly wrong orientation

Pages on iPad mini 2, running ios 8.

The magnifying glass appears to the side of the cursor, not above it, when iPad rotated to horizontal.

It's as if it still thinks the iPad is vertical. Strangely the text within the magnifier is vertical; at right angles to the horizontal rotation of the iPad.

When rotating the iPad back to vertical the magnifying glass stays to the side with the text inside remaining on the wrong axis.

The suggested fixes are to quit and reopen pages or even reinstall app but these only work temporarily.

Is this a bug apple need to fix? It doesn't happen on Pages for iPhone using ios 7.

Hey there Dave,

It sounds like quitting and reinstalling the Pages app does not permanently fix the Spotlight icon in the app. I would next quit ALL the running apps on the device. The thinking here is that something running in the background may be interfering with it:

Force an app to close in iOS

1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.

2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.

3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
