How to delete images form Photos app

Hi, i wanted to know how to delete photos from the IOS app. I've already tried to re sync it with the Photos app on my Mac. I deleted some pics from my Mac but they're still on my iPod. Also, there is no trashcan icon when I highlight them. Please help ! Thanks in advance !
