Does your iMessage actually go through your email account and server or it is just like showing like a caller ID would? I tried finding an old iMessage in my sent items from my email account and I can't find it. HELP! Thanks!
It does not use email, but you can set it up to recognize messages sent from iMessage to you using your email address. But even though it uses an email address, it is not email.

Correct. It goes through Apple's iMessage server, which is encrypted, and this is more secure than most email.
