how to fix unhappy face/whirring on my ipod

how do I fix unhappy face/whirring on my ipod classic, 30gb.Bought this second hand, was working perfectly until I tried to connect to my itunes.

Tried to sync it for first time with itunes which said the ipod may be corrupted. Tried to restore but this stopped before completion. 'Do not disconnect' was constantly on screen.

Now usb is not recognising on my computer.

Please help
