My system is so slow, any ideas please?

I recently had my 2011 Mac updated to Lion. Soon after that the system began running very slow, with response times for every action a considerable and unacceptable wait time. Also I have the Chrome browser just shutting down whenever it feels like. I have not added any significant number of new files as I mostly use Dropbox. I did install Zip Cloud. Can anyone advise as to what I can do?

OSX 10.7.5

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

2GB 1067MHz DDR3

thanks

A start would be to stop using Chrome. That should make a big dent.

See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
