Q: My iPhoto keeps shutting down.

Every time I try to edit or move photos to fast the computer shuts down and I have to reboot and do a library repair.  Does anyone know if it is my processor or iPhoto that is the problem?  I has looking at a new mac since my is a 2010 MacBook Pro, but I don't want to continue to have the same problem.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

What do you mean by more too fast?

Are you using iPhoto or Photos (which comes with Yosemite)? What system and iPhoto versions are you using?

Post the first 50 lines of the crash report.

If I click on event then click on one picture and click on another picture to fast it will shut down. I have to click on it then wait, then click on the next thing I would do and wait and so on. I am using iPhoto version 9.6.1. I have Yosemite on my Mac and at first I was in Photo but went back and am using iPhoto. I am not sure how to get a crash report. When it shuts down I comes up with a bunch of foreign language and then tells me to hit any key to continue. Then is reboots and I have to log back in.

That's a kernal panic.  Do you have any 3rd party RAM installed?

Try the following:  Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair the disk permissions and the disk.  Reboot normally and try Photos again.

Also download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

I don't believe I have a 3rd party RAM. Last year I had the hard drive replaced thru Milwaukee PC.

This is what came up after I ran Etrecheck

    EtreCheck version: 2.2 (132)

    Download EtreCheck from http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

The report doesn't show any of the usual, obvious suspects.  A pretty clean report. You might try this:OS X Yosemite: Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test

Otherwise  a trip to the nearest Genius bar is in order for a free diagnostic test.  Be sure to make a backup of your hard drive immediately and keep on hand in case more severe events occur.
