How do I turn off green bars?

Ok, I'm on safari 5.1.7 for Windows. Whenever I go to a webpage, for a second or two in the upper left of the page three green bars appear (with between one and three of them lit up a lighter color). I'm pretty sure they indicate something about the pages, but I don't know what, and I find them a distraction. I've had them in the past and remember turning them off somehow, but I can't find what menu or switch or what have you turns them off. How do I turn them off?
