Any 5400 RPM hard drive should do whether notebook or standard sized. Buy a drive and an enclosure or buy a drive package. Visit OWC to see some available options. Their Mercury products are quite good.

It is best to get an external drive/enslosure with it own power supply vice using power from the computer's USB bus.

I downloaded to a hard drive thanks. However after the download the new el cap. was also downloaded and my old computer I gave to my friend is in lock mode , totally erased. The cloud is defiantly in the clouds alright. Frustrating I can't solve this issue ??? I called apple support.
