Inability to format text in Pages

Do problems with formatting of text in Pages, that's been copied from Word, have anything to do with iCloud drive? When selected, the text seems locked, however, 'unlocking' doesn't do anything. The text also seems as if it's locked in a text box. Does anyone have an answer to this?
