Can I use the 60 watt charger on my 15 inch macbook Pro mid 2014 model? I had a spare and wanted to know if it was safe to use it with the MagSafe to MagSafe2 converter for the higher model.

The standard answer in terms of general electronics practice is to use the charger that the MBP is designed for. Using a charger of a lower rating runs the risk of damaging the charger.

So to me while it will probably work I always err on the side of caution, especially when we're talking about a very expensive piece of equipment. So I would bit the bullet and buy the right charger.
A 60w charger is 'safe' to use but not practical on a 15" MBP. Charge times will be lengthened considerably and in the instances where a lot of power is required, the 60w charger will not be up to the task.
Do yourself a favor and purchase a 85w charger.

Thank you. I am using the 60w charger with the magSafe to magSafe2 converter. Charging is fine.
I am using the 85w charger for most of my time, but am using a "backup" older 60w charger at home instead of carrying the charging cable back and forth between office and home.
