Q: Intermittent uncontrollable scrolling problem

Using mid-2011 iMac desktop. Running Yosemite 10.10.3 and Safari 8.0.6. Using 'Magic Mouse'.

From time to time, when using Safari, I have not been able to scroll up or down with the mouse. It just sits like a dead mouse. (batteries ok.) This is very intermittent as well as infrequent. My solution (for better or worse) is to click on home page and problem disappears.

Much more annoying, as well as rather frightening, is something that occurred about 30 minutes or more before writing this post. I did a Google search and it was like a race. The speed at which the pages went by was amazing. Of course I couldn't read anything except maybe catching a phrase or 2. Not only was this a Google search, but as it so happens, it was a Google search with Google's Help Screen(s). I believe but won't swear to it that I might have seen this behavior once or twice before since 2011. If so, there's no way my brain could possibly remember what I had been doing.

I don't know if this matters, but both problems, the inability to move up or down the scroll bar and the uncontrollable speed race occurred today. I've only been able to stop either by clicking on my home page icon. I dislike doing this b/c I might actually be logged into a  website which I frequently use. I then feel the need to return to that site to see if I'm still logged in. (No, don't remember the answer.) I definitely trust the website. I thought I could trust Google.

FYI - Apologies if posting to wrong community. Unsure if this is a Safari problem or what. Feel free to redirect if need bbe.

Any thoughts or advice?

FYI - the problem with rapid scrolling occurred just now while browsing Q/A in Support Community discussion of iBooks. Ack. Am a night owl but late for even me. Hope to find some suggestions or advice when I log back on. Thanks.

It is a mouse problem, not a Safari problem.    Although you say the batteries are okay, first thing to do is check them.  Do you have a steady green light under the mouse.  If you shake the mouse, does the light blink.  When did you last change or recharge them.  Do you have a battery strength monitor

Then on to interference,  Here are some notes from Apple about interference and how it may cause the problem you outline.

I appreciate your providing these links. Neither, however, apply in my case as far as I can tell.

After I looked at the links, I noticed that I had software updates available. One of them was to upgrade to 10.10.4. I did that and after a day of fear and trepidation due to a blank, seemingly non responsive iMac, I have just been able to logon. While I doubt that updating to 10.10.4 is the answer to my problem, I'm going to wait and see if the 'scrolling gone wild' reoccurs.

Or perhaps someone will have another suggestion.

FYI - I now have 5 more 'updates' aka 'fixes' waiting for me.
