Hi.
A project I am working on has transcoded media as well as original media. They are both located in the normal and correct place. However, for some reason FCP is playing original media and not the transcoded. It sometimes does not run smoothly so I want to relink all the clips to the transcoded files.
Any one know how to do this?

TThe Info inspector only shows original media information. The bottom of the inspector shows media used for playback, optimized or proxy. Where is the media located?

I am right clicking on the clips and choosing reveal in finder. The clips are in the FCPbundle >project name folder> Original media. Transcoded media folder is also in the project name folder.
That's why I say I think I need to somehow connect the files in FCP to the transcoded files.

IT always connects to original media. thats where the Info inspector gets the information. If the original media isn't there the file is listed as missing and won't play back. Everything is based on the original media. Optimized files are used for playback.

I wonder why I suddenly have stuttery playback then? Is there any way to check if playback is from the optioned file?

What are you system specifications? How much free space on your media drive and on your system drive? (Are they separate?)
Check Viewer Display Options and if it's not checked already, change Quality to better performance. See whether you continue to get dropped frames.

WWhere is the media located? Is the drive too full? Is it fast enough to sustain high data rate media?
Thanks for both replies. My Mac is top of the line 27 iMac and I have checked the quality settings etc. The hard drive is external with plenty of free space, but I am guessing it is the cause of the problem. It's a WD Green. So I guess there is nothing I can do short of change the drive. 😟

That's a bare drive. How's it connected to the computer? USB3 should be fast enough unless it's going through a hub.

I downloaded the drive speed test. I am using a 4 drive box as non raid. I also have my time machine drive in a single usb case. All are Green drives but the single is 3 times faster. So I will switch my time machine and video drives and that should solve the problem.
