Is there another way to access iMessage/Text Messages other than pressing the crown and going to the app?

Is there another way to access messages on Apple Watch aside from pressing the digital crown and selecting the message app? Would be nice if this was a choice in glances or a swipe left or right from the main clock face.

Also, why can I not view my calendar for more than a week at a time as well as look at future or past months?

I seem to recall that there is some more flexibility in the calendar functions in WatchOS 2, which is due for release in the autumn
