Music does not remember last played point when timer is used to stop play

Music does not remember last played position when using the timer to delay turning off music. This function was part of IOS6and, I think, IOS7 but did not feature in future updates of IOS. Will this function be reincorporated into IOS? I don't really want to use any 3rd party apps.
