Q: Freezing after startup
Hi Guys.
OK i'm trying to figure out if this could be hardware or software.
I have an iMac running 10.6.8 i have been troubleshooting for a couple of days now.
It came into me with with a weird problem it was starting up with a blue screen but if you pressed the power button it would go to sleep but then if you woke it up (pressing space bar ETC) it would come up with the login screen but it froze up at this point but not with the beachball just with a normal cursor.
You could still move the mouse around but it would not allow you to select anything you had to wait between 5 - 10 minutes before it would unfreeze & let you click to sign in.
I changed it to automatic log in it now doesn't blue screen but it still freezes up as before.
They had a few apps which were opening at startup i first thought it could be one of these so i turned off all open at login apps still get the same issue.
I have now set activity monitor to open at login on the CPU page everything seems to b fine its only using about 49% of the CPU with the rest idle but i cannot scroll or anything as its locked up but i can still move the mouse around the screen.
The little CPU indicators the bottom one shows solid red whereas the top one has some green & red indicators but mostly its just black or showing nothing not sure if this information is relevant.
I have tried booting in safe mode & also tried booting from a 10.6 installation USB i get the same issue however i try to boot it which would imply hardware but once it unfreezes it all works fine.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you
