Last.fm and Apple Music?

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. It should be clear that any scrobbling app (bowtie for desktop, cloudscrob for ios, or the default scrobbler apps by last.fm) will work to scrobble any tracks played from your library. Nothing ever stopped working.

The only thing that's not working is streaming curated playlists. People should stop saying "I've found a fix" in their confusion. There is no fix that anyone can provide for this but Apple. If you like a curated playlist, save it to your library, navigate to your own playlists and play it from there. Any tool you use will then scrobble the plays even if they are not downloaded, so long as they are playing from your library.

I would also disagree that switching back to Spotify is a meaningful solution unless scrobbling is top priority. Spotify has offered a stagnant user experience since it's inception. It's a pain to manage your library especially on the mobile app. It's especially difficult and near unreasonable to play your own files that spotify doesn't offer. The only way to do this is through shoddy workarounds like having them in a pinned playlist. I'd rather patronize a music streaming service that adopts everything users have ever wanted in one package and REQUEST that they add last.fm support.

I honestly think one of the reasons is "Last.fm" is a small site. I don't know how many users they have, but it's more popular outside USA (Brazilians seem to love the site). I've been on the site on two accounts since 11-12 years ago and the site have barely updated their features. It's a fun site, but how do you make money?

I've been wondering this too. I would expect that Last.fm Scrobbler on desktop will still work, but really curious about iOS.

I've heard good things about QuietScrob - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quietscrob-background-last.fm/id741599377?mt=8 - but haven't tried it yet. Really curious if it will still work with the new Apple Music.

I've been using the iPhone app CloudScrob for a while now because it's still in my opinion the best option to scrobble using iTunes Match. I suspect both iTunes Match and Apple Music are using the same kind of way to store the information about plays and stuff, so it should have no problem scrobbling with Apple Music.

I'm testing it out now with newly saved (not local) music and QuietScrob. So far the first track wasn't captured but the second and third were... Success!

I tried it and it looks like both CloudScrob and QuietScrob can only scrobble a song you have added to your library or have available in your iCloud library via iTunes Match. There is no native Last.FM scrobbling. I REALLY, REALLY want to have one app to use for my huge iTunes library and my streaming but scrobbling is a deal breaker. So looks like I will be sticking with Rdio. What a disappointment.

That's strange, I imagine if it scribbles streaming tracks and iTunes Match tracks it should handle the local files in the Library the same way.

I've tested with everything except local (my whole library is in iCloud via Match or saved via Apple Music) and everything scrobs fine.

I'm trying CloudScrob now. It does not seem to scrobble the radio stations. Have not tried the other stuff yet - kinda sucked into listening to Beats 1 for a while now.

It doesn't scrobble anything that is streaming and NOT in your library. That is my problem. So that means when I want to try a new curated playlist, none of that scrobbles. The local stuff scrobbles though. SO close but not enough.

Those apps probably go through the list of all songs listed in your library see if it was recently played. It's probably going to work for music added for offline listening, but not for anything else streaming unless Apple adds Last.fm support (which they won't).

This is a deal breaker for me too, so close yet so far. What exactly is the problem with Apple accepting Last.FM?

I think I will stick with Spotify for the time being until something has been sorted.

They just launched their own music community "Connect", they're certainly not going to add support for a direct competitor 😉

Maybe someone will find some workaround, but QuietScrob only scrobbles music that's in your library. So, it will still work with music you own, and it will work with music that you stream if you first press the plus sign to add it to your music. If you don't add it to your music library first, though, QuietScrob doesn't pick it up. Maybe the app's creator (or the creator of one of the other similar apps) will figure out how to make it work with anything that you stream... It's still Apple Music's first day.

It's only scrobbling songs stored on my device and in Match. Song played with the new streaming feature aren't. Contacted the dev about this, he replied that he's gonna check if it's possible and if so he'll implement it.
