Thank you for the response. I was "afraid" this was the answer. Seems to me the "genuses" at Apple could easily make this information available IF THEY WANTED TOO.
I'm in the same boat. Yesterday I went to different istores and all of them the same answer. I have to pre-order because none of them knows when the stocks are coming.

So, what you're asking, is that it would be reasonable for an Apple Genius to be able to instantly access every Apple store'sreal time inventory based on a phone call query.
As Allen has pointed out the only thing you can do is to call.
However there is a work around, If you know what you want get on line and order what you want they are very quick on there shipping.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately ordering a new Mac Book takes 3 weeks to ship.
Apple told me they had access to each stores current inventory and that I could no longer talk to any store personnel. All calls to a store are routed to a call center...not making this up
