Can't add Apple Music to playlists?
It is not letting me add any songs that are not currently in my library to a playlist.

I also can't add music to playlists. This makes apple music pretty useless.

After 6 hours I was finally able to update to iTunes 12.2. However like many I can't add any music from "Apple Music" to my playlists. I get the option to do so from the 3 dots next to Apple Music items and I am able to select a playlist but then nothing happens. The dialogue box goes away as if the selection was made but when I go into the playlist it's empty. I really want to like this but it's a pain in the a**. Won't be canceling my Spotify subscription anytime soon.
It appears to be a glitch, I have the same problem, adding music to the playlist only works if previously I've got the song available offline (so, it would be in my device)
Found the fix on Reddit
In my music, tap "all playlists" > deselect "show music available offline"
Took me forever to find this, same problem with empty playlists and at wits end I was just trying anything I could find to see if it made a difference, that did it.
I'm having this problem on the desktop iTunes. Anyone have a fix for that?
Also desperately looking for a solution for itunes desktop.
There is not even the option to add music to a playlist. Apple cannot honestly expect us to first add a song to "My Music" then search for the song in "My Music" (good luck once you've added hundreds of songs) and then add them to a playlist?!
The option exists on iOS why not on itunes?
I'm also having this issue. Certainly makes the desktop version frustrating to use.
There is, sadly, a "solution" to the issue which is annoying but it works (9 times out of 10). When you click the Three Dot icon, select "Go To Song" > click on the actual song's Three Dot icon, and "add to playlist" should be listed. From there you can put it in playlists.
I call this a "solution" because it does allow you to put your music into playlists, but it's amazingly time consuming song after song. Desperately want to see this patched as well as a list of the songs I've "loved" with the heart icon.
In iTunes make a smart playlist with the rule Loved is true, called, for example, Loved. This will show your loved songs, and the playlist will sync to you iCloud Music Library enabled devices.
I don't seem to have any trouble dragging and dropping items into a playlist here on Windows, whether or not I've already got a local copy. 😕

Bump. Same problem on iTunes 12.2. It appears I can add an Apple Music song to a playlist (titled after the album) but then that playlist is not viewable or accessible from either the desktop or iOS app. Seems like a pretty big bug.
I cannot add a playing song to any of my playlists without first adding the song to my library and then to my playlist. This is an unnecessary hassle that is making me go back to spotify.
This is fixed for me in 12.2.1
create smart playlist > iCloud status is apple music > make available for offline use. boom. everything downloads. live updates, etc...
If I follow your instructions and make it available off line, then it will download my entire library onto my 128gb SSD. I don't want the to happen!
I can add albums to playlists on my iPhone 6 Plus using the Music app, but when I try to add albums from iTunes 12.2.2 on my Macbook, I don't even see the option!
iPhone is running iOS 9.1 beta 5 and Macbook Pro Retina is running El Capitan 10.11
