Q: iOS 8.4 music app

*** apple? iOS 8.4 music app and the radio that you are pushing on us. I didn't want it when it first came out as I have my own music selection. I tried radio and it sucked, now 8.4 forces apple radio onto the unwary. I couldn't believe all the music I deleted from my devices you automatically made me follow these artist who I no longer have interest in. It will take a little getting used to the new music app, it has some good things but gee. Some people may like the radio but for me it just didn't interest me. Also not all countries have the freedom of cheap Internet data, so to use apple radio it is just nasty on data costs. I think I hear Steve Jobs screaming ***

I wholeheartedly reiterate your frustrations. I didn't want Apple Music when I first heard about it and I haven't changed my mind between then and now. The newly "revamped" music app *****. It's so cluttered and unnecessarily complicated. Even with the Apple Music content turned off, it still looks ugly but at least it's easier to navigate around.

The previous interface of the music app was so much more simplistic and user-friendly, especially in the car.

I think that the core of it is that the updated deleted all the locally installed music off the phone. It did the same to me. I went form 15 gig of music to nothing.

Why are you replying to me in this post, start your own thread with a description of your own problem

All my locally downloaded music is still there after the update just as it was before.

Any Smartphone should be able to play your Music collection without fuss. But with the 8.4 upgrad it is totally frustrating:

->The main navigation has five buttons, of which only one is useful if you don't care about Apple Music.

Ok, You switch Apple Music of in the Settings:

->You now have four buttons in the main navigation, two are actually useful. The other two are Apple Music related and have absolutely no use if you're not intereseted in Apple Music.

This is totally stupid. It is clearly just Marketing efforts to try and manipulate people into buying Apple Music. This is about as bad as getting a free phone that is financed by showing Advertising all the ... only that it is an expensive phone.

Apple has totally dropped it's standards on this one.

Ah yeah, then you have the stupid hearts. You spend years rating your songs with 0-5 stars and then they start silently replacing it with a system that is technically the same, with the difference that you can now only choose between 0-1 stars.

Seriously I hope the Marketing Idiot who came up with these changes gets fired and never ever again finds a job in the IT industry

Not that I don't love (or disagree with) a good rant, but ratings aren't being replaced. I wish they would have used the ratings for something instead of instituting the heart system, but ratings are still as useful (or not) as they've ever been. No harm no foul.

I agree the new app is shocking and far to bloated Steve Job's would have hit the roof with something this bad it is not intuitive or easily used. As I remember they removed podcasts into a separate app to simplify work flow.

Access to albums artists and songs were better at the bottom and easier to reach (also you could customise these to your liking and this has stopped me being able to do so this affects CarPlay on my Pioneer head unit as they are how I left them before the last update, I can no longer re arrange these.

The app also suggests that I have recently added music I haven't added any music since I got my iPhone 6

I managed to hide Connect under settings and restrictions but this still left radio and I am not paying for subscription when i can get a DAB cheaper.

This should all be in a separate app that talks to iTunes on iOS if needed.

Apple learn a lesson and do what you did with Podcasts make Connect/Radio a standalone app it's not that hard you have done it before

I can tolerate the new layout. I don't like it, and it's very unattractive and cumbersome compared to the old one, but whatever. But organizing the albums by artist in the "albums" tab is incredibly stupid, and defeat the whole purpose of the tab when it does the same blasted thing as the "artists tab, and the way I've been navigating on the phone for years. I keep waiting for another update to at least fix that, but so far nothing.

Shifting the audiobooks to another app is annoying (especially since I'd like a bloody rewind button), but it's manageable. The podcasts app is still a colossal pain, but it was long before this update, sadly.

They should have left the old music app alone, maybe just added an apple music section or created a whole different app for apple music. The new app is terrible. It looks bad and it functions worse. The old app was clean, simple, and easy to use. This app is confusing, overly complicated, and just a complete pain. What happened to simplicity?

This is exactly why I am looking around in this forum----now my album view is sorted alphabetically by artist?!?!!  That is wrong!!  Can Apple fix that!?  I go by album titles, and that's what I have been doing for years...

    I agree.

My major complaint with the update is how with the old app I could have repeat song on, click next and it goes to the next song. Now I could tap the next button for hours and it won't go to the next song in my music. I like being able to hear the same song over and over ( a bit weird, I know) then go to the next song. Apple has messed up

Stumbled over another minor confusing change

I just wanted to open my playlist of "recently added" songs and let them play by random.

I noticed a tab for that in "My Music" but no play controls, as hard as I tried I could only open albums or single songs.

Then I changed to the Playlist view, thinking maybe it would work there. Well there was also a tab for that, but only showing new playlists and no play controls for the whole thing.

Eventually after a lot of scrolling down in "My Playlists" I found Itune's "recently added" playlist and could start the music from there.

This change is not that bad, but also not really necessary and rather confusing at first as "recently added" is a very handy playlist that iTunes automatically creates.
