Q: iOS 8.4 music app

*** apple? iOS 8.4 music app and the radio that you are pushing on us. I didn't want it when it first came out as I have my own music selection. I tried radio and it sucked, now 8.4 forces apple radio onto the unwary. I couldn't believe all the music I deleted from my devices you automatically made me follow these artist who I no longer have interest in. It will take a little getting used to the new music app, it has some good things but gee. Some people may like the radio but for me it just didn't interest me. Also not all countries have the freedom of cheap Internet data, so to use apple radio it is just nasty on data costs. I think I hear Steve Jobs screaming ***

I have just learnt that there is an FM receiver on iPhones and many other smartphones and that they are switched off by manufactures. Funny how it all works about money. We can't have free to air radio because we have to pay for streaming. Sad sad sad

I thought Apple prided itself by being simple enough for anyone to use it, at least that what Steve said. He is gone so i guess his core values are gone as well. The new music app is beyond complicated. It is all over the place, everything is everywhere and nothing is even close to what it once was. why couldn't apple just make another app i can't delete for AppleMusic and radio, that way it doesn't screw up MY!! music!! We all could put this new music app right next to the useless "watch" app that i will NEVER use. i would never buy into the apple watch gimmick/scam. Fine (expensive) watches are not electronic that are outdate 6 months from their release and obsolete in 3 years. Fine watches are family heirlooms that last a life time and something you're proud of.....but thats another subject. Cut to the chase LOOSE THE NEW MUSIC APP APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! IT *****!

You learned incorrectly. The iPhone doesn't have everything it needs to receive FM radio. It's not "switched off" by manufacturers. It's missing components to be a functioning FM radio--components the require pcb space, power to run, and an antenna to receive, among other things. It's not so simple as just "disabling" it.

You are free to take advantages of the many ways to receive free radio, including FM radio, on your phone and not patronize Apple Music. I'd suggest the Tune-In Radio app. It's excellent and you will have your pick of FM radio stations from pretty much every city in the country.

Guys, if you think apple is going to reverse course and change things "back", you haven't followed or used apple products much. That would be admitting they were wrong and that just ain't happening. What you see is what you got for one or maybe more years. Heck, I've been waiting for them to fix music so if I close the app, when I open it, I don't loose my place in the playlist. If I held my breath waiting for apple to actually "fix" that, I'd have been dead dozens of lifetimes. Apple music is now their golden goose. If you think they are going to minimize that for your personal purchased music, well, sorry, you have a screw loose.

There are interface things they won't change, but there are also occasionally "removed" features that they add back later. You are probably right about the amount of time it will take, though, for whatever moment they do allow to happen.

I've never lost my place in the play queue (be it playlist or album) until this update. It's infuriating to say the least. Even with iTunes Match, where my position in the song would be lost, the queue would still be preserved upon resume, it would just start the song from the beginning. The only time my place in the song would be preserved is if the music was stored locally on the device. Now I routinely see my queue completely wiped out after presumably the music app gets dumped from memory. Seems to happen when I'm playing "Apple Music" the most but even happens with uploaded or "matched" tracks. Only time the queue is preserved that I can tell (for me) is when the music is stored locally. It's a bit of a deal breaker for me actually.

Well, My response is that I might have to look elsewhere when replacement time for my player and phone comes. It will eventually happen. My wife, friends and colleagues at work are moving to Android and away from Apple. Let's be honest, it's no longer the only game in town and other manufacturers are producing more user friendly devices which allow you to replace the battery, come with screen protectors and are much less expensive. The Apple AAC codec is very good but storage being as cheap as it is today means you can store your music at a high bit rate MP3 (256 KB or higher) or even a wav file making the Apple codec less important. I realize that they have a plan and so may not want to make major changes to that plan but allowing the user to select an artist within a genre isn't a major change. It's a modification. They've already released an I-Tunes update, 12.2.1 only a week or so after they released 12.2, so they aren't immune to changes if they receive enough complaints.  Otherwise I being a customer of Apple will have to reconsider which company I do business with in the future.

I just read my e-mail where I've been told that my original "rant" was removed. Just so that whoever removed my post reads this, as it's my only way of responding. I've spent thousands of dollars for Apple devices over the years. My post was not a rant. It was very critical of the current firmware update. Obviously, from the replies I am reading, I am not alone in my opinion. If any of my points could be addressed by someone with more knowledge of either of my Apple devices, I would be satisfied. As of today, no one has been able to answer what I see as valid questions. By the way, I have already sent copies of my "rant" as you describe it to Apple customer service which is probably where I should have posted originally.

Grr I spent time out of my evening replying to that "rant" in hopes that some of my workarounds and approaches would be useful to you. Frustrating.

Sorry, your suggestions didn't address the  problems I am having with the new firmware. Thank you for trying to assist but as of today, my Apple mobile devices are much less useable than they once were.

Guys I'm using an app called musis, also I have tunein radio and love that app. But there is also an app out there called nextradio that would make use of the fm receiver in the iPhone. Great comments though, I enjoy using my devices but lately the software is getting annoying. I have ideas for in my car to remove there stereo completely with just a bluetooth amp and use either the iPhone or iPad as the main stereo. I also use the mobile Foxtel app and streaming if free, you only pay for subscription. With all the profit apple makes why couldn't they do the same with their new music app/radio etc.

Is there a way to remove the Radio option on my music app? The reason I loved Apple is that their music app was amazing and so simple to use; it beats Android music apps anyday of the week but now it's starting to look like Android music players. GAH.

I appreciate that the new update makes my iPhone 6 faster but the music app is the key dealmaker or dealbreaker. It looks too disorganized. I liked having my music sorted by artist, then by albums where I can see each individual song in each album instead of now having to press on Artist, then the album I want to listen to, then the song.

Ex. Rush---> Moving Pictures---> Limelight. Gah. Before it was just Rush---> Scroll down to Moving Pictures---> Click "Limelight". Done.

Strange the Media doesn't jump up on this.... there were so many headliners in the last years about Apple product flaws that in reality weren't bad at all, just had a bad start

    -Apple Maps

    -Antenna Gate

    -Bending iPhones

    etc.

Was all never a problem but a big Media hype...

...now we have a serious flaw and the this forum is about the only place you hear about it.

I think the issue is that with things like Apple Maps the media could show a quick image of how bad it was. With the antenna they could make fun of the "don't hold it that way." And with bending phones they could show a bending phone. All quick hits and quick images.

With the Music app they would have to explain everything. Takes more steps to shuffle or repeat, sorting albums is different, etc. The media doesn't want to have a story that has to go in and explain why it's bad. Even if they did show those things on a story many people would just join the bandwagon of iPhone haters and say, "Awww you have to press one extra button Apple Fanboy."
