Music home sharing no longer available after ios 8.4 update?

I have been searching for a way to access my home music library from music after completing the ios 8.4 update. Any way to connect now? The option seems to be missing.

I have been looking for this as well, looks like Apple may have taken this out with 8.4 which would be very upsetting and I probably wouldn't have updated older devices if I had known that as we use home sharing in the house all the time, or at least we did 😟 Hoping I am just missing it and someone will point me in the right direction

It is gone, and like many here I was shocked that a key part of my workflow had disappeared.

Though I've been burned by Apple's fickleness in the past I'm actually hopeful in this case. The iOS 8.4 Beta 4 Developer Release Notes clearly states under Known Issues:

Home Sharing and Genius Mixes are not currently available.

It might be overly optimistic on my part, but perhaps the amount of work involved in merging the Music and Betas apps prevented some functionality from being implemented in time for the big launch. While it is a time-consuming hassle in the meantime, if we get it within the next month or so I'll be satisfied. Now if they could update iBooks for the Mac to let me edit metadata again...

Here's the link to the notes: https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/releasenotes/General/RN-iOSSD K-8.4/

I just went back with downgrade to iOS 8.3 because of home sharing. i do not see deleting the option of home sharing as a feature - its a very big mistake of apple to do so. all the years long they talking about home sharing in their advertisings and now they killed it? no way LMAO

i just went back with this website - it worked very well and i am very happy to continue listening to my music on my server.

but i think if u want back to iOS 8.3 u have to hurry up

Anybody angry about the removal of Home Sharing for music should shout as loudly and as widely as possible, to make it clear to Apple that ditching a much-used feature without any warning is unacceptable, and also to put pressure on them to reinstate Home Sharing in future releases.

If the removal of Home Sharing for music affects you, please:

It's unlikely that anyone from Apple monitors these communities, so we need to cover all the other bases. This is an uncharacteristically terrible move by Apple, and it should be highlighted as much as possible, publically or otherwise.

Perhaps we should get Taylor Swift involved! 😉

Yep, I agree. Complain to whoever will listen. Thanks for the links.

An additional option (please do complain to apple first), is to find an app to replace home sharing. Home sharing was nice when it worked, but often it didn't, without any reason.

I found "Music Streamer" by Stratospheric ltd. It uses SMB/AFP sharing (i.e. normal file sharing) to allow music streaming from PC/Mac. I emailed the developer and they gave me a code to try it for free, which was nice, but otherwise it was £2.29. It took 3 mins to setup and then it went away and found all the music.

Considering all the hassle of getting apple home sharing to work on a cheap BT router, I wish I'd found this app years ago. It does mean you can ditch itunes completely if you want.

I had the same problem today with my new macbook. Homesharing is still there but somehow is turned off in the update. On mac and pc go to preferences under file for pc and under iTunes on mac. Then click sharing preferences on both computers and check share library on local network. This fixed my problem and took three advisors to figure it out. Hope this helps!

Sigh.

ios 8.4 is ipad - not mac - not pc. If you don't have an ipad it won't effect you.

Updating your ipad would not turn something off on your pc or mac. It can't.

Home sharing on ipads under ios 8.4 is discontinued. It may come back, but as they broke it under beta 1 and didn't bother to fix it for beta 2,3 and 4 and final release, you can assume it won't be back.

Please follow Graham_SL advice and complain, or try the app I suggested if you can afford £2.29.

Plex Media Server for your PC/Mac is free, there is also a paid tier -- but you don't need it to stream on your home network. There's an option to add your iTunes library to your Plex library as a dedicated channel. If you have more than 1 PC/Mac with stuff you want to share, that'll work too -- just install Plex Media Server. Very easy to install and configure. The iOS Plex app that'll let you stream from your Plex media library to your iOS device is $5.

OK I'm glad Apple monitors these discussions after all, even if it's for all the wrong reasons, as they have now removed my last 3 posts. Just because I dared to express my constructive criticism. Without Home Sharing there's no need for me to even be part of the Apple ecosystem anymore and knowing that I can't even say what I think about their services, I guess this is definitely it for me, this is not the Apple we want. I'll rather spend my money elsewhere and at least I won't regret being charged premium prices for services that are far from premium.

Music home sharing no longer available after ios 8.4 update?
