how do i import contacts from gmail to ipad3

You will need an app for that > Sync Gmail, Calendar and Contacts on your iPhone and iPad - Gmail Help

Open up the settings app and 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'. After that click add an account and put in your gmail information. Once you do that there will be an option to whether you want to enable the gmail contacts or not to load onto your phone. Enable that and your gmail contacts will be onto your iPad.

Open the Settings app > Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars">Tap "Add Account" >Select "Google" from the list of services> Fill out your Google user information. (You will need to enter your name, Gmail address, and Gmail password.)>Toggle "Contacts" on.Your Google contacts will be added to your Contacts list.
