When I update an existing contact on my iPhone the contact is updated in my contacts on my Mac. However, if I update a contact on my Mac the contact on my iPhone does not get updated.
If I add a new contact to either one the other is updated.
Any ideas?

I understand that contacts are not syncing from your Mac to your iPhone. I would check to make sure that iCloud is set to default for syncing contacts. Any other personal information manager or email account similar to iCloud can keep contacts from syncing. Here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through for this issue.
