So basically is there a lot of difference from a MBP 2011 I5 to a 2012? I really like the Macbook I put on lay a way but I am upset that it was sold to me as a 2012?

The 2012 models have slightly faster CPUs, somewhat improved GPUs and in my opinion the biggest difference, USB3 connectivity rather than USB2. It is your choice and I suggest you base it on price. Check ebay for comparable's.
