Problem with iPhone to HDMI adapter

I am trying to use the iPhone to HDMI adapter to watch videos on my tv. I do not have wifi and am trying to use my cellular data. Everytime I plug my phone up to the adapter my signal dies and goes to no service. Is it possible to use the adapter without using wifi? Does anyone have any tips on resolving this issue? I'm using IOS 8.3
