Trading my iPhone 4s to an iPhone 6?

Since the iPhone 4S was released i have bought it when i was in Florida/California but it was unlocked so when i go to Egypt i won't have a problem with my sim card, recently i have heard about trading up ur old iPhone to an iPhone 6 with an exchange of a few dollars but with a contract, so if i travel to Newyork or California can i trade my iPhone 4S to the iPhone 6 without a contract and i can pay the rest of the money or i will have troubles?

You are talking about the Apple Recycle/Reuse program: http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/ and you get an Apple gift card based on the assessed value of the iPhone you are offering for recycle.

The amount allowed is determined by the Apple Store people based on the model iPhone and the condition of the iPhone. We are all fellow users so cannot speak for Apple on what they will allow on recycle value. See what they offer, and if it is too low you can always try and sell on eBay.
