My 2009 MacBook Pro has "service battery" sign. How long do I have before I must replace it?

"Service Battery" means that the battery is down to 80% of its original capacity. Replace it at your convenience.

If that is the original battery, I would replace it now as a matter of procedure. One can only expect a 4-5 year service life for a MBP battery.
