All my music disappeared after updating to IOS 8.4. The space is however still occupies. Is there a solution to fix this without going through the restore and starting from scratch process?

If you are using iCloud, you can re download purchased music for free > Download past purchases from iTunes in the Cloud
Purchased music already shown as downloaded.
This does not help. I have the same problem with my iphone and my ipad. If I turn of itunes purchases, then I end up having no music at all on the phone.
Is there no admin here who can help us. I am off on a trip with no access to my computer to restore the phone and I need the space to take pictures and not to have used up with music that I cannot hear.!
