Resetting iPod Touch

Okay so I have looked into all the ways of resetting an iPod and the best one I could use is Recovery Mode but my question is what if your home button doesn't work at all? What then? Someone please help me, I will greatly appreciate this.

Then don't use Recovery Mode. Is there something wrong with your iPod that's preventing you from restoring normally?

What exactly happens when you try to restore the iPod via iTunes?
