apple music library not syncing from mac to iphone

I have Apple Music setup on a family account on both my iPhone 6 and my MacBook Pro 15". When I add something to my library from my phone, it shows up on my mac after a reasonable delay. The sync in that direction works. But if I add something to my library from my mac, it never shows up on my phone as in my music. Even after restarting both devices, turning on/off apple music and icloud music library on the phone. No luck. Anyone else having this problem? Any idea how to fix it?
