I recently had my hard drive reset and am trying to restore my IPhoto library to Photos via a backup through time capsule. The old iphoto library was imported, but created a separate library in Photos. How do I merge them so all my photos are in the system default library? Or, how do I import my Iphoto backup to my OSX Yosemite Photos library? I want all my photos together - please help!

There is no way to merge Libraries with Photos.app. You will need to export from one Library to the Finder (File -> Export) and then import to the other.

Thanks for your help, but this method does not keep my events/albums intact! I have thousands of photos organized into events on iPhoto, and your suggestion lumped them all together during the import. There must be a way to import my iphoto, including events, into photos.
That's what "there is no way to merge libraries" means - you can't move the features of the Library, only the actual files.
Photos does not do Events. In Photos the basic structure is a new concept call Moments. If you want to mimic Events in some fashion, make albums.
If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 on your Mac you can merge your two iPhoto libraries into one with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager and then convert that library to Photos.
