Q: Wi-Fi not working on iOS 8.4

Hi,

I had problems on iOS 8.3 where Wi-Fi worked at the beginning, but then stopped. Sometimes iPhone 4S attempted to connect, I saw wifi icon and then it disappeared. I tried Reset Network Settings, I managed to setup Wi-Fi connection again, but it worked for a few minutes and then again the same issue.

I was hoping that the issue will be fixed on 8.4, but now it's worse. After resetting network settings I cannot even join wifi network. After entering password, it says "Unable to Join the network. I have correct password, because I'm using it for other devices.

I tried to restore iphone through iTunes, but I cannot do that, because I'm getting error message "Find My iPhone" must be turned off. The problem is that I cannot turn Find My iPhone off in iCloud settings on the device, because Wi-Fi is not working. Now I cannot restore iPhone and I cannot setup Wi-Fi.

Another issue is the fact that device may not have 8.4 installed. Although it reports version 8.4, the device didn't show locked screen after update, like it did on iPad. It seems that device only shows version ioS 8.4, but hasn't really been updated, otherwise I would see locked screen after restart.

Is there a way to force iOS 8.4 update again on the device?

How can I fix wi-fi problem? Wi-Fi scanning seems to be a little slow. On that page the device often freezes for 20 seconds or so. The quality of iOS and Mac OS X has gone down dramatically.

I have $800 iPhone 4S, which has the antenna problem and I don't think I want another Apple device, if I can get Android device with better spec than iPhone 6 for $200. Over 3 years I made around 50 calls with this device and I'm not using much. I'm just using password manager app and need wifi for sync and backup.

You know what, forget this, because no one is going to fix/revert wifi code back to what it was on 8.0 or older.

This is totally what I need.

After change my wifi router channel to 9 (you can search how to do it), turn Wifi in iPhone off and on, it works ! My iPhone 4s now stays connected with wifi without problems.

Thank you, thank you for sharing this solution. Vote and share for him, guys !

Since, I think Apple still need to fix this problem, because it's so dump that I can only stay connected with my wifi, not others.

I have iPhone 4s running iOS 8.4 and the Wifi just suddenly stopped working the other day. It won't pick up any networks of which there are several in my neighborhood or at work. Wife's iPhone 6 and the iPad are still connected to home network just fine so I know it's not a network problem... it's a device or software problem.

Seems like it's a Wifi hardware issue on 4S but after looking through this thread I'm not so sure if it's effecting other iPhones and iPads? It wouldn't surprise me if something in 8.4 has screwed up the WiFi capability... par for the course with Apple lately. Everything they update just ends up breaking and screwing up other things. Steve Jobs wouldn't be pleased and Apple's drop in quality and lack of response while retaining the high price tag is getting beyond annoying for longtime Apple users.

Who are you to say what would have pleased Mr. Jobs?  I seriously doubt that you and he were personal friends.

    Hi Msg70,

Similar issue i faced, i don't know whom to blame and apple is saying nothing wrong with the OS. I was very much happy with my IPHONE 4S.. I think one of the best model of apple bcz it was remembrance of Steve jobs.. now it screwed.. Apple had to think on this and get back the solution. instead  of apple giving useless answers they had to think about the solution.

I'd updated my iPod Touch to iOS 4.8 over a week ago, and then left town on a trip, just thought that it was a weird 'on the road' glitch until I got back home last Saturday.

I contacted Apple Tech Support on Sunday, after trying everything both on my own and what I found here, to try to get it online & working.

After doing a clean install of 8.4 whilst chatting w/ Tech Support, I still could not log in to my local wifi ar home. We set up a Genius Bar visit & I just now got home from that. My iPod logged right into their network, and we went on from there.

I asked them all kinds of questions while they tested my iPod, about this update, mass issues with getting on the internet... The Genius Person was kind, but cool in reply.

Bottom line, there was NO ISSUE with my iPod, the upgrade, nor firmware. So, since I back this Pod up to my desktop regularly, they did a new, clean install of the 8.4 upgrade, (since it was online there, at the store, we could turn off the "Find my Phone" setting, and It's now RESTORED with my apps. I only have to rework my settings.

Logged right into my wifi, and off we go! No longer a light weight 'boat anchor', my faith restored!

Let's cross our fingers that it stays afloat!!!!!!!!!

I may have spoken too soon, in the above. Although my iPod readily logged into my home wifi, It's still having issues connecting to the App Store and Facebook online. It won't fill in some of my emails either, if they're data burdened...

hmmm. I know my internet connection is mediocre at best, and that my wifi router is dated... but it worked well before this upgrade. dang.

    HI Everyone,

The solution seems to be crazy but it worked great !!

switched off phone and kept mobile in freezer for 30 mins and started phone it worked awesome.

I did at my own risk since Apple wont recommend such solution.

note : my problem was able to switch on wifi and not able to see available networks.

this solution I saw in other website (ifixit). So guys I'm happy to share this. if u try this pls let others know.

im really happy that my phone is back to normal without paying any money for service..

Well it's pretty obvious the guy was very passionate about the iPhone and he had high expectations and little tolerance for shoddy hardware or software. I bet he also couldn't care for the utterly useless and overly regurgitated fanboy responses that clog up the Apple forums and serve no purpose other than to prop one's self up as some sort of faux expert on all things Apple.

Are you talking about the same Mr. Jobs whose solution to the iPhone-4 problem was "Don't hold it that way?"

Yeah have seen that suggestion in several places although some people reported it as only working for a couple days and then the phone went back to no WiFi again. So it's likely a hardware failure. I've seen another solution regarding a loose screw near the WiFi antenna that might solve the issue.

Might just end up upgrading to a new phone. No working Wifi on the device is getting really lame.

Hey all am new to the forum

But again like many others i guess - i upgraded to 8.4 on my ipad and iphone 6 and since then when connecting to my home wi-fi - its soooo slow and very often unresponsive.

So i went into my router settings and changed the security from what i originally have: Mixed WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK Security to be WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key).

As a result i do see that my wifi for my apple products improves but my work Laptop doesnt connect to wifi at all as it doesnt like this form of Authentication and Encryption Methodd.

So do we just sit tight and await apples fix ??????

Hope this short term fix helps others.....

    thanks all

I found that lately not only iOS devices, but also other OSes (Windows 8 on a new Acer for instance) have trouble with certain WiFi networks. Usually one can connect, however, internet is not working. A page would load to some percentage and the loading bar would freeze. The page never loads.

I found that this is somehow DHCP communication related. Here is what solves the problem for me:

Connect to the WiFi access point, see what IP, Subnet, Gateway and DNS settings are provided. Then go into the manual settings and type the same values there. And voila it works.

As for iOS 8.4 steps are as follows:

Connect to the WiFi access point

    Go to Settings

    WiFi

Touch the i symbol on the right of the listed access point connected to

Note down settings under the DHCP tab

Open the Static tab and enter same values

Return to the previous menu level

    Close Settings

My home network is a rather mixed environment of TP-Link Extenders, UniFi access points (Ubiquity) and a Mikrotik router.

I'm now about to investigate if there is anything with the Mikrotik router that causes it (as the problem is with all access points and the DHCP server is the Mikrotik router anyway). If I find anything that points to the network hardware I will update my posting.
