Q: Wi-Fi not working on iOS 8.4

Hi,

I had problems on iOS 8.3 where Wi-Fi worked at the beginning, but then stopped. Sometimes iPhone 4S attempted to connect, I saw wifi icon and then it disappeared. I tried Reset Network Settings, I managed to setup Wi-Fi connection again, but it worked for a few minutes and then again the same issue.

I was hoping that the issue will be fixed on 8.4, but now it's worse. After resetting network settings I cannot even join wifi network. After entering password, it says "Unable to Join the network. I have correct password, because I'm using it for other devices.

I tried to restore iphone through iTunes, but I cannot do that, because I'm getting error message "Find My iPhone" must be turned off. The problem is that I cannot turn Find My iPhone off in iCloud settings on the device, because Wi-Fi is not working. Now I cannot restore iPhone and I cannot setup Wi-Fi.

Another issue is the fact that device may not have 8.4 installed. Although it reports version 8.4, the device didn't show locked screen after update, like it did on iPad. It seems that device only shows version ioS 8.4, but hasn't really been updated, otherwise I would see locked screen after restart.

Is there a way to force iOS 8.4 update again on the device?

How can I fix wi-fi problem? Wi-Fi scanning seems to be a little slow. On that page the device often freezes for 20 seconds or so. The quality of iOS and Mac OS X has gone down dramatically.

I have $800 iPhone 4S, which has the antenna problem and I don't think I want another Apple device, if I can get Android device with better spec than iPhone 6 for $200. Over 3 years I made around 50 calls with this device and I'm not using much. I'm just using password manager app and need wifi for sync and backup.

You know what, forget this, because no one is going to fix/revert wifi code back to what it was on 8.0 or older.

MacBook Air (13-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Now, where do I go to complain about iOS 8.4 screwing up my iPhone 6's ability to hold an LTE signal?

Lol. At this point, I'm thinking my next phone will be made by Samsung or LG. Give me a stable OS over an unstable OS with a bunch of updates, please. I'm not as mad as I was the other day, but I'm still pretty annoyed. Apple needs to step up their game & realize that the more complex they make their devices/software, the more unstable it will become.

Apple, please please please go back to simplicity!

Before you go to an Apple store or authorized re-seller, try making sure that you are consistently using the same DNS addresses in all devices. This  resolved my issue. I used Googl's DNS addresses which are 8.8.8.8 and 8/8/4/4 in all of the following:

    • Netgear DSL modem
    • AirPort Extreme
    • All iOS devices (iPad 2, 5g iPod touch)

As soon as I did this WiFi immediately began to work.

    I have an iPad 2.

    After updated to iOS 8.4 two days ago, now it's facing the same issue, Wifi disconnected and unable to join back to the same Wifi network;

I tried to join to 5G wifi network on the same router, it's also failed.

After tried to forget the network to rejoin the network again, it kept responding "Incorrect password for...". I did Reset Network Settings it still didn't work.

I tried to change my router's DNS setting to Google DNS servers as recommended. After that, all attempts to join Wifi network were still failed; however, by luck, I tried to join to the 5G Wifi network, it's suddenly work fine... for now.

Not sure how long it will work this time.

That symptom is a new one on me, at least for this particular issue. You wouldn't have Airplane Mode turned on or WiFi turned off, right? The network isn't hidden, correct?

Failing all that, your iPhone should remember the network or at least detect it so that it can be selected manually.

Had screen freeze issues along with wifi issues. Updated IOS 8.4 via iTunes twice, reset network twice (including rebooting of modem and router) and reset phone several times. Nothing worked until I disabled Find my iPhone. Then, slowly screen began to function and wifi began to be detected again after the phone being locked up for two days, useless.

Enabled Find my iPhone and the phone started to freeze again. Disabled again...Now, the iPhone is working again.

Made an appointment at the Genius Bar, but if there are no more issues with the Find my iPhone off. I will wait until there is an IOS but fix.

    Hi Frank,

No the phone wasn't in airplane mode altho I did try it just in case that worked.  The network isn't hidden but is password protected.  All other devices (2 laptops, windows 8 phone, samsung galaxy and ipad) all had no issue.  Tried to set it manually but it just said it couldn't find it. Also reset the network setting on my phone but nope nothing worked.  Got home and it picked up the one here no problem so I have no idea why it had a problem at the bach.

Disabling of Find my iPhone helped me as well. But anyway it's not a permanent solution.

Till a bug fix, it's fine for me. Not sure  of a permanent solution until then.

Had the same issue after upgrading.  I have Comcast and the only thing that worked for me was unplugging the router and plugging it back in.  Once it reset, my iPhone found the wi-fi home network immediately.  Hope it's as easy a fix for others.  Good luck!

Are you serious?  There are multiple threads, with many different users with multiple types of devices that worked perfectly fine before upgrading to iOS 8.4.  Now we are having wifi connectivity problems.  Why would you suggest taking the hardware to an Apple Store?

Are you serious?  A suggestion was made to assist the OP in resolving the problem and you want to start a debate.
