Q: Wi-Fi not working on iOS 8.4

Hi,

I had problems on iOS 8.3 where Wi-Fi worked at the beginning, but then stopped. Sometimes iPhone 4S attempted to connect, I saw wifi icon and then it disappeared. I tried Reset Network Settings, I managed to setup Wi-Fi connection again, but it worked for a few minutes and then again the same issue.

I was hoping that the issue will be fixed on 8.4, but now it's worse. After resetting network settings I cannot even join wifi network. After entering password, it says "Unable to Join the network. I have correct password, because I'm using it for other devices.

I tried to restore iphone through iTunes, but I cannot do that, because I'm getting error message "Find My iPhone" must be turned off. The problem is that I cannot turn Find My iPhone off in iCloud settings on the device, because Wi-Fi is not working. Now I cannot restore iPhone and I cannot setup Wi-Fi.

Another issue is the fact that device may not have 8.4 installed. Although it reports version 8.4, the device didn't show locked screen after update, like it did on iPad. It seems that device only shows version ioS 8.4, but hasn't really been updated, otherwise I would see locked screen after restart.

Is there a way to force iOS 8.4 update again on the device?

How can I fix wi-fi problem? Wi-Fi scanning seems to be a little slow. On that page the device often freezes for 20 seconds or so. The quality of iOS and Mac OS X has gone down dramatically.

I have $800 iPhone 4S, which has the antenna problem and I don't think I want another Apple device, if I can get Android device with better spec than iPhone 6 for $200. Over 3 years I made around 50 calls with this device and I'm not using much. I'm just using password manager app and need wifi for sync and backup.

You know what, forget this, because no one is going to fix/revert wifi code back to what it was on 8.0 or older.

MacBook Air (13-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

I am not trying to start a debate.  I have already wasted too much time trying to find out why all four of my iOS devices running 8.4 keep dropping  WiFi connection.

OK - I'll take your advice and drive 45 miles to the nearest Apple Store.

I had the same issue after some electrical problems following a storm last night.

My iPads with 8.3 still work fine. I'm in no hurry to upgrade!

    Hi,

New to the forums as I've never needed help before.  I'm not sure if this is the same Wi-fi problem that everyone else is having or not.  I have an iphone 5 and did the ios 8.4 software update over the weekend.  Luckily, I did not update my sons IPad. We have Verizon FIOS and I've never had a problem connecting my iphone in two years.  Now, I can only connect if I stand in front of the router - 5 feet away at most.  Anywhere else, it "finds" my network, but then asks me for a password.  I type it in and says it can't connect.  However, if I'm standing in front of the router, it just automatically connects.  No other issue with son's Ipad, our internet TV, computers, etc.  I've tried resetting the network, turning off network connections in privacy setting, rebooting the router.  I even tried to go back to 8.3, but after going through the entire process, it wouldn't let me restore my Iphone settings with all my contacts, etc. unless I upgraded back to 8.4.  I needed the info, so I upgraded back to 8.4 to get them back. I'm not computer savvy, so I'm not sure how to go into Verizon's router to change it to this google 8.8.8.8 thing I've seen, but if everyone agrees it will do the trick, I can try it if someone walks me through it.  Anything else I'm missing, or do I just have to wait until Apple updates the flaw?  I'm also not positive, but I think I get Wifi connection outside the home.  I've never really paid attention because I just use the cellular service normally.  I'll try it at the library today just to make sure.  I have Tmobile service and unfortunately it doesn't really work in my house, so no chance to use the cell service to connect to internet in the home.  And yes, we've tried other cell services, but none really work in our house.

I was having this same issue until yesterday when a friend suggested that I unplug and then plug back in my wifi router. It didn't make any sense to me that that might work (since the wifi on my other devices was still working fine), but it did. After unplugging and then plugging back in my wifi router, I tried connecting again on my iPhone 5 and it connected like normal.

Thanks, I did try this originally, but decided to try it again this morning and leave the router off for 15 minutes before reconnecting.  Still does the same thing.  Everything else can connect but my Iphone.  I should say it connects if I'm within 5 feet of it, but if I'm in any other room, it says it's connected, but I can't get internet access and if I try to open my mail, it says it can't connect to it - then it shows it drops off.  Very frustrating since it worked fine before the IOS 8.4 update for two years now.  I'm just thankful I didn't update my son's Ipad since he plays a ton of games and watches Netflix on that thing.

Open to other suggestions.  Not sure taking it to an Apple store will help since it only seems to be a problem with my home Wifi connection I think.  Haven't had a chance to connect to any other's Wifi yet as I have unlimited Tmobile out and about.  We just don't get Tmobile service in our house very well, if at all most days.  Ugh!

I had same problem with my iPad 4 flow weeks. Fortunately tried one method - totally disconnect your router, not just switch off (it didn't worked). Then you switch on again and surf that rounter as before.

I He tried to re-configure the wifi, switched off the router, etc. .... All cannot fix it up but only this help to stay connected with wifi

So you're not looking for assistance?  You're posting here merely to rant.
