    Hi,

I've been away on holiday, but now I'm back I'll take a look at your problem. I haven't had any reported crashes of Audiobook Browser from Apple analytics in the last two weeks, so I guess it is working for most people. Can you turn on "Share Data with App Developers" under Settings>Privacy>Diagnostics and Usage, so that I can get a report on what is causing your issue.

If anyone else has tried Audiobook Browser, or Audiobook Browser Free, please let me know what you think and if it is working for you.

    Thanks

    Magnus

    Hi,

I had a chance to look into it today and found the bug. For some reason some Audible files (and possibly some other DRM protected files) do not have an AssetURL in the media library. I have sorted out the player to it now works around this and loads these tracks a different way. Hopefully Audiobook Browser is all working now - let me know if you have any further issues. It will probably take a week or so to get check by Apple and be live on the app store.

Anyone else who is interested can try Audiobook Browser Free (it is ad supported but fully functional). Let me know if it helps you out or if there are any changes you would like to see. I built it for myself and use it everyday - I find it some much simpler and more functional than the new Apple iBooks integration!

Sigh... I strongly dislike how Apple continually neglects audiobooks and podcasts in their updates to iTunes.

I get most of my books from Audible so I just downloaded the Audible app and am playing them from there. Works pretty well.

I thought I had lost my audiobooks and was furious!  However, I found them in iBooks.  You have to click on the very top line where it says "Books" and it will drop down to Audiobooks.  Nothing is ever easy with Apple updates.  I hate them!

Your audiobooks are in iBooks.  See the top line "Books" and click on the drop-down and you will see "Audiobooks."  Hope this helps.

I am having a problem with Audiobook Browser. Since the complete and utter screwup of Apple's latest ios and iTunes update, I have completely wiped my ipod and currently only have 9 books on it, 4 from one author and 5 from another. I am able to listen to one of the authors, but when I go to the other author and choose the first book (or any book) in the series, instead of it taking me to the play screen, it boots me out of the app. Can you help?

I am a long time Audible subscriber (since 2001) and have over 2500 books in my collection. This is how I used to use iTunes with audible:

Once the books were downloaded I would rename the book to indicate which book it is in the series and so that it will stay in series order...The Hunt for Red October becomes JRyan01-The Hunt for Red October. I use the series name or main character name because I have several different series books by the same author, for example James Patterson has the Alex Cross series, the Women's Murder Club series, the Honeymoon series, the Private series, etc.

Once the series is renamed, I create a playlist and upload the entire playlist to my iPod. I also had several different types of playlists. I had one for "On the Road" for when my husband and I listen together on long trips, and I had a playlist for the books that I would listen to when listening alone (you know, the romance books my husband will not listen to.), and I had a playlist for books that I wanted to listen to while on long trips on my motorcycle (a beautiful 2010 Harley Davidson Fat Boy...see I am not just a girly girl, besides, you just can't listen to romance novels while sitting on a vibrating motorcycle for hours...it is just too dangerous!).

Since the last update, not only did it change all of my audiobooks to the iBooks app and kill all of my playlists, but it has changed the "Album" category back to the original name. The "Name" category has remained the same. I would have to go into each and every book under "Get Info", under the "Sorting" tab and change the Title to the same thing as the Chapter listing in order to be able to sort the books by series. What a P.I.T.A.

So, my question to you is...will your app do what I want? How can I create the Playlists and upload them to my iPod when iTunes will not acknowledge them? is there an easy way to change all of the Title listings (which shows up as Album in the main screen of iTunes)? (I am a windows user...don't hold it against me. I have been a computer tech for the past 23 years and just sold my business to retire.) If you have a beta version that I could download to test, let me know. Thanks.

    Greeting MagnusB,

Thanks for your app!  I have my Shakespeare Library and I didn't want to rebuild it.

Could your app be updated to use the screen position?  I use a ipad in a keyboard case and most of the time it is in a horizontal position and not vertical.

    Best regards,

    CJ

    Hi,

For your first problem (books by one author cause the app to crash) it should be fixed as soon as the 1.3 update comes out. I have submitted this to the app store, so hopefully it will be out within a few days. There was a bug with some audible files not having a piece of metadata needed for the chapters.

Regarding will the app do what you want: I hope so - try it and see. The free version (Audiobook Browser Free) do exactly the same as the paid version, but it has adverts. So you can test it out. I could enroll you in the beta program but it would take as long as waiting for the 1.3 update anyway, so I am not sure it is worth it, but I will do it if there is a new version with a feature you need next time.

On a Mac there are some 'applescripts' that can do things like move all the Album Names to Titles or swap them or whatever. I don't know if there is anything similar for PCs. If the data looks right to you in iTunes, hopefully it will look right in Audiobook Browser, even if it looks odd in iBooks, so maybe you won't need to change anything. It is pretty much why I wrote the app.

    Hello MagnusB,

I've downloaded the free version of Audiobook Browser, version 1.3, and it doesn't seem to be working for me at all. The interface looks good - all the playlists that I've missed! - but as soon as I select any file or playlist, the app crashes and returns to the desktop. Thus far I've been unable to get it to play anything at all, whether it's a DRM'd Audible file or a podcast that was tagged to "Media Kind = Audiobook".

This is on an iPhone 5, and I've just updated to iOS9, so maybe the new iOS is an issue.

Yeah, the issue is I can't seem to get them to PLAY from iBooks, at least not from my iPhone.

However, I was able to get my old playlists to show up on my phone by clicking the "heart" on the top. That helped a lot. That was an issue with using iMusic...

    Hi,

I am on the case and hope to submit a new version to Apple today. Something has gone wrong since the iOS9 update. Hopefully Audiobook Browser will be back up and running on iOS9 in a few days.

Audiobook Browser and Audiobook Browser Free are now updated for iOS9. New versions (1.4) are under review by Apple and should appear in a few days. Sorry for the issues for those already updated to iOS9 - I only have one iPhone myself and can't run multiple OS versions on it for testing!

Ranch Dog: I saw your message about screen orientation - I am just trying to sort out if I can easily have landscape just for ipads or not. If so I will include that in the next release. If you contact me through the app support email address, I will include you in beta testing and you can tell me if it is doing what you want.

    Cheers

Just installed Audiobook Browser Free from App Store, hoping it would solve my audiobook disappearance problem. The app showed my titles, but, every time I tapped on a title the app crashed, closing itself. Brand new iPhone 6S (arrived FedEx yesterday) on latest IOS: 9.0.1. I don't want to purchase the Audiobook Browser until I'm sure it will work on my device. Please advise. Thank you.

Joe Sluga, I don't think the new iOS9-compatible 1.4 version is available yet in the App Store. Although MagnusB has submitted an updated version, Apple's review process presumably hasn't finished yet - wait another couple of days, I guess.
