Please help, I can't record anything in GarageBand?!

I've bought a new MacBook Pro. Playing on instruments on the "Virtual Keyboard" in the program such as basses, drums or pianos works fine! But when i try to record any of them with it it won't work! The record button isn't responding to any instrument, only the new auto-drums...
Please help me with this one!
