Photos taken are too big and dpi is too low

I took several photos with my new iPod Touch, sent them to my Mac, then imported them into Photoshop for editing. Each of them is 22" x 22" at 72 dpi. How do I set the iPod Touch to take smaller photos at a higher dpi?

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

iCloud Photo Sharing limits the resolution:

iCloud Photo Sharing supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. When shared, photos taken with standard point-and-shoot cameras, SLR cameras, or iOS devices will have up to 2048 pixels on the long edge. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.
