itunes 12.2.0.145 has lost all my music files! Help!

I updated (stupidly) to Apple iTunes 12.2.0.145 and now all my music files are gone and all my playlists are gone too. What do I do? I have an enormous music library on a separate hard drive, so this is important to me.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

I had that exact same problem! I have a massive library as well. Everything was gone! Granted the physical files were still in my iTunes folder it's just iTunes was empty! Music, playlists, apps, audiobook, play counts, iTunes settings, etc all gone! I have multiple iTunes backups that I make once a week or so. I tried using a fresh backup & I still had the same problem. I tried using the directions found in this Apple Support Document, and that didn't work for me. But I've heard it works for some people. I'd say try that. If you don't see your content after updating iTunes - Apple Support

If that doesn't work (it didn't for me), I found an old version of iTunes on the net (12.1.2) and, using terminal commands, was able to remove 12.2 & was able to downgrade. That worked for me. However, I had to use a backup of my iTunes library folder because 12.2 corrupted my primary iTunes folder. Fortunately my backup is only 5 days old and I'm only missing 1 app & 16 songs, which is no big deal because they're still in the currupted iTunes folder so I just drag & drop them into the new iTunes and that's it.

Hopefully one of these methods works for you. Good luck!

No joy, tt2. It seems that Windows Explorer never quite finishes reading Removable Disk E:. The green stripe at the top never clears. The right-click menu opens but Format does not.

I will be in a town with an Apple Service Center in 2-3 weeks. I guess my last hope is that they can work some magic.

In the mean time I'll either whistle or enjoy the silence.

Thanks for your help,

Laura

I recently lost all my music too. Over 3,000 songs. I was able to retrieve my library, by reverting to a version just before the new update. Thank God I retrieved all my music. The problem I am having is burning playlists. The new format will let you build a playlist, but there is no place to select which songs you want to burn. So, I found a few old playlists that still pop up in the old style format, in which I added songs to,then was able to check which ones I wanted. This works somewhat. Apple admitted they have bugs, but don't have an answer yet. Still waiting for a red flag engineer to call me.

When you make a new playlist the default is "Playlist" view. On the top right side of the window you see the word "Playlist" with a down arrow. Click on the down arrow and choose "Songs". This actually will put in you list view. From there you can check or uncheck songs. Then right click playlist title and choose "Burn To Disc".

When I upgraded all my old playlists were changed to what is now "Playlist" view with the little thumbnails next to each song. I have to manually change each one as I select that playlist.

I think I'm having the same problem as others, but I'm not sure.

I upgraded to the new iTunes this morning, and realized that all my music appeared to be uploading to the iCloud. Shut that down as quickly as possible because I'm not interested in having everything on the Cloud. I have always stored my music on an external hard drive and iTunes has linked to the files there. When I turned iCloud off, all but a few of my songs which had not yet been uploaded disappeared. So, I reverted to a previous iTunes library. All my songs are there in iTunes but playlists are gone, unfortunately. But all the songs (except those few that hadn't been uploaded to iCloud yet) have exclamation points beside them. So I went directly to my external hard drive to find them and.... EVERYTHING IS GONE FROM MY HARD DRIVE!!!! Except those songs that weren't yet uploaded to iCloud when I turned iCloud off. Is it actually possible that iTunes removed files from my hard drive when uploading them to iCloud?! If so, THAT IS INSANE! How could they build in that feature? I've lost THOUSANDS of files! Any idea how to get them back?! If this is a permanent problem, this is the last apple product I will be buying. Not that they care about one consumer, but I have noticed a trend toward more and more Samsung products and I will be joining those users....

In the meantime, anyone have any idea if this is what has happened and how to fix it? Thank you a million times over.

Update currupted a library of 16000 song and 120 movies. 1 month with Apple support , up to "engineer" level input with no resolution. More irksome, they promise to call at the next update and have never done so. I call them every time only to be told that they have "just gotten some new info and are working on it". Reminds me of my old experience with comcast. I expect the out come will be the same. I am now a DirecTV customer.

ASpple seems to be at a loss or is not interested in helping people with mature libraries who want to keep them native to there local harddrives

I have been through every iteration of fix that you describe to no avail. Everybody very nice, but unhelpful. More irksome, they promise to call at the next update and have never done so.
