Viber Messages Lost on iphone 5

Today when I tried to enter my viber messages, the first screen that appeared was the Viber set up screen. Following the on screen instructions, I entered my mobile phone number and the access code received via an sms. My contacts were synced again. And then I noticed that my viber chat conversations were deleted. Can you please explain why this has happened and if there is a way to retrieve my messages???
