Make sure Find my Mac is enabled on your Mac.

Take a look at this:

You need to have enabled and tested this while your Mac was still in your possession to be able to use it later.

If you find your stolen Mac, consider asking the local police to "discuss" the matter with the person in possession -- regular folks have gotten injured or killed when confrontations went bad.

Solving such issues is exactly what the police do a lot of the time. They should tell you, "let us be the Bad Guys".
